Welcome to the month of April. Here are 10 things to do in April to simplify your life, get organised, declutter your clutter and carve out more time for what really matters to you.

They say that March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb so hopefully April brings softer Spring weather and plenty of colour to our gardens and homes.

This month’s little list of things to do in April to simplify your life cover a range of simple projects to clear your clutter and generally make your life easier.

You’ll go from standing in front of the mirror to burrowing down into the footwell of your car, along with some suggestions for growing your mind and re-focusing your life!

Here are 10 ideas to simplify your life in April. Small steps that will hopefully help to bring a little calm, joy and ease to your every day.

1. Declutter your home

Try this list of 30 things to declutter from your home this month to clear the clutter from your home step-by-step. Decluttering doesn’t have to be overwhelming or time-consuming (although it may feel like that in the beginning!). Slow, steady progress will give you the same results but without stressing you out in the process.

Don’t forget to plan what you’re going to do with your unwanted items before you get started. This makes it much easier to clear the clutter from your home without getting a bottleneck of clutter that you don’t know what to do with!

2. Select some inspiring podcasts

I love listening to podcasts because I can carry on doing other things (like making dinner, walking or housework) whilst I’m listening and learning to something new, informative and inspiring. Take a moment to find some podcasts that grab your attention and that you can turn to when you have a few moments to listen in.

3. Sort through your photos

Spring-clean your phone and photos this month. Go through the photos on your phone, delete the duplicates which are fuzzy or poor quality and only keep what you absolutely love (you’ll still have loads to keep so don’t worry!). Come up with a way of saving them on your computer or using Google Drive, for example, so that they’re in separate folders for different categories (by year, by child, by holiday etc). Clearly label the photos and folders so you can find them again quickly and easily. Here are some other ways to get rid of your digital clutter.

4. Re-focus your life

So much of our time is spent thinking about our families, our work and our responsibilities. Take some time to re-focus and reflect on how you take care of yourself. What do you do for YOU? How do you feel about yourself? What makes you happy and feel lifted up? How can you make more time for that?

Journaling is a wonderful way of re-connecting with yourself, especially if life feels a little busy. Try these journal prompts for self-care and self-love for some ideas.

5. Plan a day out

It’s so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day that we forget about the bigger picture. Days flow into weeks, our weekdays are spent at school and/or work and the weekends are spent catching up on what we couldn’t do during the week. As they say, a change of scene is as good as a break and one day spent together as a family, or even by yourself, could do you the world of good!

6. Take a walk

For many of us the weather starts to improve in the Spring. Make a pact with yourself to move your body every day in a way that feels comfortable to you. Try taking a walk every day during the month of April. What do you see? What do you hear? What do you feel? A gentle walk is one way to enjoy the little things in life and be mindful and present in the moment.

7. Practice the power-hour clean

Find one hour in your schedule and whip around your home giving it a good clean. See how much you can get done in just one hour if you try to stay motivated and focused. 8. Be kind to yourself

Stand in front of the mirror and say 5 kind, encouraging and complimentary things about yourself. Did you find it difficult? If so, try again tomorrow! Here are some positive affirmations you could try.

9. Clean out your car

If the weather is nice and you’re heading out in your car more, check that it’s clear, clutter-free and tidy. Throw the rubbish, make sure you’ve got spare change for the car park and clear out the random stuff that collects in the boot, doors and footwells!

10. Tick off your monthly checklist
