11 Simple Ways to Love Your Home More

Sometimes, life gets busy, clutter piles up, and our homes start to feel more like a To Do list than a sanctuary. If you’re craving a little more love for your space here are 11 simple ways to love your home more and make it a place that truly feels like you.

WHAT’S YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR HOME?

You know that feeling when you walk into someone’s house, and it just feels good? Like, warm, welcoming, and completely them? That’s the kind of home we all deserve – one that makes us happy every time we step through the door.

I love my home now. I’ve set it up to function as our family needs, with things around me that have meaning and value. That doesn’t mean they’re purely purposeful but I appreciate them every time I look and use them.

But it wasn’t always like this. Instead of looking around my home with love, I used to look around with frustration, resentment and even despair. Too much stuff, too many messages that my stuff was sending out like a silent To Do list weighing me down.

However, over time, I’ve learned to find ways to have a better relationship with my home. In this article I hope that can be the same for you so you can love your home more too.

11 SIMPLE WAYS TO LOVE YOUR HOME MORE

Sometimes, life gets busy, clutter piles up, and our homes start to feel more like a To Do list than a sanctuary. If you’re craving a little more love for your space, this article’s for you! Here are 11 simple ways to fall back in love with your home and make it a place that truly feels like you.

1. Clear the Clutter (Without the Stress)

Personally, I think clutter steals not only our space and time but our love too. It sneaks up on you, fills up every corner, and suddenly your once-happy space feels overwhelming. But decluttering doesn’t have to be an all-day nightmare!

Try the one-room-a-day rule: set a timer for 20 minutes and tackle one area at a time. Or, if that sounds too much, start small – clear just one shelf, one drawer, or one surface. The more space you free up, the lighter and happier your home will feel.

And remember, you don’t have to get rid of everything – just the things that no longer serve you. Keep what makes you happy, and let go of the rest.

2. Let There Be (Better) Light

Lighting makes a huge difference in how your home feels. If your space is feeling a little dull or uninspiring, take a look at your lighting setup.

  • Natural light: Open up those curtains and blinds during the day! If privacy is an issue, consider sheer curtains that let in light but still give you some coverage.
  • Warm, soft lighting: Swap out harsh, cool-toned bulbs for warm, soft white ones. Fairy lights, table lamps, and candles can also add a cosy glow.
  • Layer your lighting: A mix of overhead lights, lamps, and accent lights makes a space feel balanced and inviting.

The right lighting can make even the simplest room feel warm, welcoming, and lovely.

3. Bring in Nature

There’s something about having a little bit of nature indoors that makes a home feel alive. Whether it’s a lush green plant, a vase of fresh flowers, or even a bowl of lemons on the kitchen counter, bringing in natural elements adds instant warmth.

Not great with plants? No worries! Try low-maintenance ones like snake plants or peace lilies. Even high-quality faux plants can do the trick if you really don’t want the upkeep.

4. Surround Yourself with Things You Love

Ever notice how the things we surround ourselves with impact how we feel? If you’ve got a bunch of stuff in your home that doesn’t really mean anything to you, it might be time for a little refresh.

Fill your space with:

  • Photos of happy memories
  • Artwork that inspires you
  • Books you love
  • Objects with sentimental value

The key is intentionality – if something doesn’t make you smile or bring you joy, why give it space in your home?

5. Make Your Bed (Yes, Really!)

I know, I know – it sounds small. But trust me, starting the day with a neatly made bed makes a huge difference. It instantly makes your bedroom look more put together and gives you a tiny win first thing in the morning.

Bonus points if you invest in bedding you love. Soft, high-quality sheets and a cosy duvet can turn your bed into a luxurious retreat rather than just a place to sleep.

6. Add Some Feel-Good Scents

Scent is a powerful thing – it can completely change the mood of a space. Think about how comforting it is to walk into a home that smells like fresh-baked cookies or a calming lavender candle.

Try adding scents you love with:

  • Essential oil diffusers
  • Scented candles
  • Fresh flowers
  • Reed diffusers

Find a signature scent for your home – one that makes you feel relaxed, happy, and at home.

7. Give Your Home a Quick Reset Every Evening

There’s nothing worse than waking up to a messy kitchen or a pile of stuff everywhere. A simple 10-minute reset of your home and tidy-up before bed can work wonders.

Put away stray items, wipe down surfaces, and do a quick scan of your main living areas. Future you will thank you when you wake up to a fresh, clean space.

8. Upgrade One Small Thing

Loving your home doesn’t always mean a massive renovation. Sometimes, a small change can make all the difference.

Consider:

  • Swapping out old, worn-out cushions for fresh new ones
  • Replacing tired-looking towels with soft, fluffy ones
  • Changing drawer handles or cabinet knobs for a new look
  • Adding a funky rug to freshen up a room

Tiny tweaks can have a surprisingly big impact!

9. Create a Cosy Nook Just for You

Every home should have a special corner just for relaxation – a cosy nook where you can curl up with a book, sip tea, or just take a breath.

Find a corner, add a comfy chair or cushions, throw in a soft blanket, and make it yours. Whether it’s by a window, in a quiet corner, or even just a favourite spot on the sofa, having a dedicated place to unwind makes home feel extra special.

10. Personalise Your Space

Your home should feel like you, not like a showroom or an Instagram trend. Don’t be afraid to mix styles, add personal touches, and make it your own.

Hang artwork that speaks to you, use colours you love, and arrange things in a way that makes sense for your life. The more your home reflects who you are, the more you’ll love it.

11. Shift Your Mindset

At the end of the day, loving your home is less about what it looks like and more about how it makes you feel. Instead of focusing on what needs fixing or changing, start appreciating the little things.

Take a moment each day to notice what you love about your home – whether it’s the way the sunlight hits your favourite chair, the scent of your morning coffee filling the kitchen, or the comfort of your bed at the end of a long day.

Loving your home is about gratitude, presence, and creating a simplified space that makes you happy.

Hi Antonia, I'll upgrade/get a new bathroom rug as our present one has seen better days. Last year I painted some window tiles that had lost colour because of the rain and I also painted the bathroom knob. They were little things but made a difference and I was happy to be able to do it myself. I gave my home some love.

Candles and lights always present! Thanks for this article.
