START HERE FOR A SIMPLER LIFE
Life can get messy. It can feel like you’re constantly behind, juggling too many things, with your home, your schedule and even yourself pulling for attention. You might feel stuck, exhausted or unsure where to start.
That’s why I created The Simplicity Roadmap—a gentle, step-by-step and very practical approach to living simply, intentionally and with less overwhelm. Think of it a little like a Start Here page.
This isn’t about perfection or doing it all at once. Living more simply and intentionally is a journey. Not something you can tick off your To Do list by tomorrow and think you’re done and dusted.
Instead, it’s about taking small, meaningful steps to create space in your home, your mind and your life—so you can focus on what truly matters.
If this sounds like you, I’m glad you’ve landed here. You’re not alone. So many readers tell me:
“Help, I’m stuck and I don’t know how to get unstuck…”
This roadmap is designed to guide and start you on a path of clarity, freedom and intentional living and give you a snapshot of my work here on Balance Through Simplicity. You can work on each step at your own pace, with tools to support you if you want them.
There’s no perfect order to simplifying your life and no need to do everything at once. You might begin with your home, your schedule, your mindset or simply by creating more breathing room in your day. The important thing is to start where you are and take small, supportive steps forward.

1. declutter your home
Home is where the heart is—and it’s where we launch from and return to each day. Yet, too much stuff can be one of the greatest sources of frustration, conflict and tension. Many people feel stuck and don’t know what to declutter, let alone how. If this is you, you’re not alone – I promise!
Decluttering isn’t just about how much stuff we have. It’s about the reason we have that stuff: the mindsets and habits that keep us buying, storing and holding on. Our stuff can carry memories, comfort, reminders of the past and even lifestyles we no longer have time or energy for.
When we free ourselves of clutter—things that don’t support a happy, fulfilling life—we open space. Not just to walk around our home without tripping over something but freedom in mind and heart. Energy that was spent managing stuff can now go toward life itself.
That doesn’t mean every item must go. Comfort, belonging, connection and reminders of love are important. But when stuff starts keeping you from being present, it’s time to consider letting go. And then a whole new world of space might open up for you.

2. Make Time for Looking After Yourself
Self-care is more than spa treatments or flowers—it’s whatever your body and mind need to feel nourished, supported and ready for life. When we feel good on the inside, we make better decisions, take better action and can show up fully in our lives.
Yet when life demands so much of us, self-care often sinks to the bottom of our To Do list. Tired, wired and frustrated? That’s normal, especially if you’ve been juggling kids, work and life without pausing to listen to yourself.
We can’t press pause on life—but we can build small, meaningful ways to tend to ourselves. Little and often is enough and the earlier we start, the better.
Self-care is unique to you—karate, knitting, quiet reflection, or whatever nurtures your mind and body. The important part is that it becomes part of your routine.

3. Organise Your Time and To Do List
Do you ever feel like you’re rushing, disorganised, or don’t know what to do next—even though a million things are demanding your attention?
Decluttering and self-care help free up space and energy but life still requires action. The modern mental load stretches us all and it’s no wonder we feel overwhelmed, chasing our tails and playing catch-up.
Time management tips are helpful but only if they’re practical and sustainable. Habits and routines are the real game-changers and enable us to make best use for our energy, motivation and our most limited resource, our time.
Remember too that being busy and rushed is not the same as being productive and effective. Productivity is about getting the right things done and still finding time for YOU.

4. Streamline Your Wardrobe for Body Confidence and Ease
A simplified wardrobe can give you so much more than easier mornings. Curating pieces you love to wear can boost confidence, reduce stress and save time.
You don’t need to follow rigid rules—this isn’t about copying someone else’s style or wearing the same outfit every day. It’s about knowing what you like, what makes you feel good and making those pieces easily accessible.
I love how a capsule wardrobe lets me get dressed quickly while feeling confident and prepared for any occasion. It’s an important tool in my toolbox for showing up for my life and presenting the best version of me to the day ahead.
In fact, it was my very first decluttering project and something that, to this day, is one of my favourite and most useful of decluttering projects. It helps me feel good about myself and my body every day and makes those rushed early mornings before the school run and work so much easier!

5. Review and Reflect Through the Year
Do you have plans you want to put into action or are you searching for direction and purpose? Do you get easily side-tracked, give up on things because they feel too difficult or just feel like you’re treading water in life and want something different?
A solution to all these problems is to set meaningful goals that help you focus, achieve things and build your best life. The key, though, is that these goals have to truly align with what matters to you. It’s not enough to make loose, woolly goals that sound good on paper or when you share them with a friend – they have to be really significant and important to you.
Setting SMART goals with clarity, detail and deadlines creates a path toward what you really want.

And Then…
The steps above form the foundation of an easier, simpler, more intentional life. But what about mindset, happiness and living a life aligned with your values and that fits your current season in life? That’s where deeper reflection, curiosity and heart work come in.
Simplifying your home, time and life isn’t about becoming perfect or finally “having it all together.” It’s about creating more clarity, support and breathing room so everyday life feels calmer, easier and more aligned with what matters most to you.
